DAVIDSONS GARDEN DESIGN STUDIO

Japanese Garden

This walled garden was one of the first major projects for the team. The client was enthusiastic about trying new techniques for creating this garden in a sustainable way which made for a really great creative experience.

There was a lot of logistics involved with moving one and a half ton stones from Ronez quarry into the site and finally into their final resting place.

The pond and stream too were an amazing experience with using puddling clay as opposed to traditional plastic or fiberglass liners.

This was an adventurous and wonderful journey with the construction of the garden almost complete!

There were three main areas to this garden which were all designed as designated viewing spots. These three corners of the garden give you optimal views across with the central stones acting as the peaks of the mountain tops in the centre.

The corners of the garden represent different aspects of japanese culture, from the ceremonial tea room in one corner to the woodland zen temple in the other.

There is a water pond and stream that flow uniquely across a eight pathed bridge which brings good fortune to those walking across it.
